Taylor Fritz and Dan Evans are scheduled to face one another in the round of 16 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12.
Taylor Fritz overcame a first-set loss and an 0-4 deficit in the third set to win in three sets and advance to the third round of the Canadian Open for the first time. In fact, when Fritz defeated Andy Murray in the first round, it was the first time in his career that he had won a match in Canada, and with this win over Tiafoe, he has extended that streak. The world number 13 won 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 to improve to 17-5 on hard courts this season. He needed an hour and 54 minutes to get out of the hole he found himself in during the first set.
Dan Evans was given 11/5 odds to upset Andrey Rublev in his second round match, but he outplayed the Russian. Evans won 6-4, 6-4 in an hour and 32 minutes to avenge his earlier loss to Rublev in Dubai. Evans broke Rublev in game one, only to be broken again in game six. With the score 3-3, Evans got his second break of the set and finished the formalities by serving out to love. Evans only needed a break in the third game of the second set, and while he missed a match-point on Rublev’s serve in the ninth game, another serve to love ended his opponent’s resistance.
Taylor Fritz and Dan Evans are scheduled to face one another in the round of 16 of the 2022 Canadian Open on Friday, August 12. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
