French Open : India tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian partner Franko Skugor reached the quarter-finals of the ongoing French Open. Bopanna is the only Indian left in the French Open after Ankita Raina, Sumit Nagal, and others were knocked out in previous rounds.

The Indo-Croat duo got a walkover in the men’s doubles pre-quarterfinal clash against the Netherlands’ Matwe Middelkoop and Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador.

“#TOPSAthlete @rohanbopanna and his partner #FrankoSkugor have advanced to the quarterfinals of the French Open in men’s doubles following a walkover from Marcelo Arevalo and Mattwe Middlekoop,” the official handle of SAI Media tweeted.

Bopanna and Skugor will now take on the Spanish pair of Pablo Andujar and Pedro Martinez in the quarterfinals on Monday.

Earlier, Bopanna and Skugor had previously won 6-4, 7-5 against Frances Tiafo and Nicholas Monroe in the second-round match on Thursday. The entire match lasted for one hour and 20 minutes.

The 41-year-old Bopanna, ranked 40 in the world, is not defending any points this year at the Roland Garros.

The Indian needs to earn points since this is his last chance to improve his ranking. The rankings on June 10 will be considered for entry into the Tokyo Olympics.
