French Open: Defending champion, Rafael Nadal made it to the quarterfinals of the ongoing French Open. He won against Italy’s Jannik Sinner 7-5, 6-3, 6-0 at Court Philippe-Chatrier in the fourth-round match. The match lasted for 2 hours and 18 minutes. The match between Nadal and Sinner was a nail-biter in the first set, but in the end, the 35-year-old Nadal won it 7-5.

Sinner tried to make a comeback in the second set, but Nadal showed his class to win the set 6-3. Nadal, at that time, was just one set away from making it to the quarter finals.

Nadal displayed an impeccable game, and Sinner had no answers. He did not drop even a single game in the third set of the match.

French Open: Who add made it to quarter finals

Defending Champion Iga Swiatek made it to the quarter finals of the French Open by defeating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round. She won in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Kostyuk saved one match point on her second serve. At 30-40, she tried to find her ground in the ninth game of the second set. Swiatek has now won 22 straight sets at Roland Garros, including the title last year.

Against an 18-year-old opponent who gave her everything against her, Swiatek kept her composure on an empty court Philippe Chatrier. Fans were not allowed to spectate due to Paris’s 9 pm COVID-19 curfew. “There were so many differences (from a day match),” said Swiatek.

She next faces 17th-seeded Greek Maria Sakkari, who reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal. Swiatek is also in the last eight of the women’s doubles.

Kostyuk reached the third round of the Australian Open at the age of 15 on her Grand Slam debut the youngest to go that far in 21 years but this was her best run at any major.

This is set to be the first meeting between Iga Swiatek and Marta Kostyuk. Hence, their current head-to-head stands at a 0-0 deadlock.
