French Open: Barty survives scare; Suarez Navarro gets knocked out

French Open : World No 1 Ashleigh Barty marked her return to the French Open for the first time since her 2019 and beat Bernarda Pera and made it to the second round. However, she admitted she isn’t 100% fit and has a hip problem.

Venus Williams, who is playing her 24th time and a runner-up 19 years ago, was defeat by the hands of Russia’s Ekaterina Alexandrova. She won the match 6-3, 6-1.

Carla Suarez Navarro put on an extremely tough fight. She came back on the court after recovering from cancer. However, she faced a defeat at the hands of Sloane Stephens– 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-4. The match lasted after two hours and 24 minutes on Court Simonne Mathieu.

Earlier in the day, fifth seed Elina Svitolina showed remarkable recovery and her game also made a comeback. She made a comeback from a 2-5 second-set deficit to beat French teenager Oceane Babel 6-2, 7-5.

Svitolina, a three-time quarter-finalist in Paris, will face world number 75 Ann Li of the United States for a place in the last 32.

Li marked her French Open debut with a 45-minute 6-0, 6-1 demolition of Margarita Gasparyan.

Petra Kvitova has withdrawn from the French Open after injuring her ankle in a freak fall while performing her post-match media duties on Sunday, the 11th seeded Czech player said in a statement.

DAY 4 ACTION AT FRENCH OPEN

The Day 4 action will take place between the women and the most anticipated matches will come today. Tennis legend Serena Williams will in action against Mihaela Buzarnescu and would continue her journey today to go into round three.
