In the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Masters' second round on Wednesday, world no. 20 Alex de Minaur of Australia will compete against world no. 9 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada.
De Minaur, who had already won on the North American hard court swing this year in Atlanta, easily defeated Swiss qualifier and world number 102 Henri Laaksonen to advance to the second round in Cincinnati. With an early break in the first set, the Australian took control of the match. Although the Swiss player saved six additional break points in his subsequent service game, the strain eventually caught up to him, and he broke his serve once more as de Minaur advanced. De Minaur was well on his way to winning the second set after making another early break, and another break highlighted his domination. In a little more than an hour, the game was over.
Due to his seeding, Felix Auger-Aliassime had a first round bye in Cincinnati, but he is still figuratively licking his wounds from what happened to him in Montreal last week. He was defeated by Casper Ruud in their quarterfinal, winning just three games against the Norwegian, who was going for his first Masters title in front of home fans. He would have thought about that match for the last week, and he will now try to rebound in Cincinnati, where he also advanced to the final eight in 2021. This week’s run will help you forget about last week.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur are scheduled to face one another in the second round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Wednesday, August 17. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
