On Wednesday, the Australian James Duckworth will face German Dominik Koepfer in the opening round of the 2022 ATP Atlanta Open.
Only 19 games were played by James Duckworth this season as the Australian was primarily sidelined by injuries. It has been difficult for him to play tennis consistently as he has only recently returned. He had a string of good victories on grass and away from the surface, so it hasn’t been entirely horrible. The North American hard courts are a good fit for the Australian’s playstyle, so he should no doubt find some form there. He had a very successful season last year, going 36-24, and he will be hoping for a great season’s end to avoid falling too far in the rankings. Prior to the start of the Australian summer the following week, he must place among the top 100.
Dominik Koepfer is back on the courts where he nearly grew up after missing a significant portion of this season due to injury. Dominik attended college in the US, therefore he is used with playing on hard courts in North America. Koepfer is 6-8 despite having just played 14 games this year. It hasn’t been great, but after such a long hiatus, it was to be expected. Left-handed Koepfer plays the typical game. His left-handed kick serve is lethal, and he also possesses a powerful forehand that can deal a lot of hurt. He significantly dropped out of the top 100 due to his extended absence, so he needs to resume winning games to regain those points. His two victories in the qualifying give him a good chance in Atlanta.
James Duckworth and Dominik Koepfer will take on each other on Wednesday July 27 in the first round of the 2022 Atlanta open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
