Six-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic will face emerging Italian Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Wimbledon.
On Wednesday, July 6th, six-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic will face emerging Italian Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Wimbledon. Their single meeting occurred at the 2021 Monte Carlo Masters, which Djokovic easily won in straight sets. After a rough year for the 20-time major champion Novak Djokovic, everything seemed to be falling together for him here at Wimbledon. The number one seed got off to a good start in the round of 16, winning the opening set 6-2. However, Djokovic was clinical from the start of the third set, as the Serb won 6-1, 6-2 in sets three and four to advance to the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time.
At Wimbledon, Jannik Sinner has never advanced past the first round before the current season’s Championships. Sinner faced 19-year-old phenom Carlos Alcaraz in the round of 16 in a matchup of the last two Next Gen ATP Finals champions, and may have been considered the small underdog. Alcaraz did have more breakpoints, but Sinner was able to hold his ground when it mattered most, winning in four sets and advancing to his first Wimbledon quarterfinal. Sinner will put up a fair fight, but the Serb currently has imperious touch on the grass.
Novak Djokovic v Jannik Sinner are scheduled to face each other on Wednesday, July 6 in the quarter-final round of the 2022 Championships. The timing of the match has not been decided yet. The Championship is scheduled to begin on June 27 and go on until July 10. There were a number of exciting matches on July 4 as the likes of Nadal, Kyrgios, Fritz and de Minaur and others will be in action.
