For the 11th time in their history, seven years after facing each other for the first time, Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are set to rekindle their epic rivalry in the semi-final of the 2022 ATP Astana Open. Djokovic, who is seeded fourth in the competition, defeated Karen Khachanov on Friday in the last eight 6-4, 6-3. The Serbian reached his sixth semi-final so far this season and should he go all the way and win the title in Astana, will qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals later this year. The former world no. 1’s service game was on point as he bagged three aces and he also managed to return three of the five break points that were available to him.
Medvedev breezed past Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut in the last eight 6-1, 6-1 on Friday. It was one of the Russian’s most convincing performances this season as he scored six aces and returned six out of 14 break points. “I am happy to play the right game, to be really solid and to do everything I can to make his life difficult and I am really happy to beat him,” Medvedev said in his on-court interview. “I tried to mix it up as it is not easy to play against Roberto. I tried to mix it up and surprise him a little bit and it worked very well.”

The ATP Astana Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
