Despite taking a few weeks off, Khachanov has maintained his strong performance from the US Open, although he can’t be overly pleased with his draw in Astana. Khachanov draws Maxime Cressy, Marin Cilic, and now Novak Djokovic, but Rublev and Mannarino are progressing through a variety of qualifiers, lucky losers, and wild cards. But this is the kind of shape to be in if the Russian is going to overtake the powerhouse Serb.

Djokovic, on the other hand, seemed untouchable after dropping just six games during the first two rounds. He has a 3-1 H2H record on the hard court and doesn’t seem to be having any problems with his part-time schedule. Though I believe he will accept, Khachanov’s form calls for a set.
