Novak Djokovic and Cristian Garin will take on each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Wednesday, October 5.
Although Novak Djokovic had a tough week in Tel Aviv, he managed to win the title without dropping a set. He looked a little shaky in the other two rounds against Roman Safiullin and Vasek Pospisil, but he was rock-solid in the first set against Pablo Andujar and the title match against Marin Cilic. The Serbian has already won titles in 2022 at the ATP 250, Masters, and slam levels. If he were to win one at the 500 level and the season-ending ATP Finals, he would become just the second player after Roger Federer in 2010 to achieve this feat.
Only 17 victories and 19 defeats have been recorded by Cristian Garin so far this year, and he hasn’t participated in a competitive match since losing to Alex de Minaur in the second round of the US Open two months ago. The Chilean has also played just one match on indoor hard courts since the start of the 2021 season, and his last victory on the surface came in the first round of the ATP Vienna in 2020 when he defeated Stan Wawrinka in three sets.
Novak Djokovic and Cristian Garin are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Wednesday, October 5. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
The ATP Astana Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
