Taro Daniel and Emilio Gomez will face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Wednesday, September 28.
After a promising start to the 2022 season, Taro Daniel lost his way, but he has possibilities this week in Seoul and the following week in Tokyo to recover his confidence. Over the years, he has played and won many matches in East Asia at all levels. The Japanese recently dropped out of the top 100 in the ATP rankings due to poor performance during the US Open swing and their inability to win back-to-back main-draw matches since ATP Belgrade in April (2022). He swiftly snuck back into the group, though, by making it to the second round in San Diego last week, though he still runs the risk of dropping out of the top 100.
Last week in Columbus, Emilio Gomez competed in his fifth Challenger circuit final match of the year and was defeated in straight sets by Jordan Thompson. On outdoor hard courts so far in 2022, he has prevailed in 29 games and claimed two Challenger titles. The Ecuadorian’s record at this stage at this level now stands at 3-9, with his last such victory coming against fellow South American Facundo Bagnis at Indian Wells Masters last year. The Ecuadorian lost all three of his prior main-draw matches in tour-level competitions this year.
Taro Daniel and Emilio Gomez are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Wednesday, September 28. The tournament is scheduled to begin on September 24 and end on October 2.
