Wednesday opening round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open will feature Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, ranked 105th in the world, taking on Polish player Martyna Kubka.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto of Italy, who lost in the second round of Wimbledon, enters the Polish Open with a 3-3 record over her previous three competitions. Her first major victory came when she defeated Martina Trevisan in the first round at Wimbledon. In the previous three competitions, the World No. 105 fell in the first round in Bastad, advanced to the quarterfinals in Budapest, and last week lost to Caroline Garcia in the second round in Palermo. She has a year-long record of 27-9 on clay, including a second-place finish in the WTA 125 Makarska. In ITF finals, the 21-year-old Cocciaretto has a 6-3 career record. Unusually, she played in all nine of her finals on clay courts.
Martyna Kubka, a wild card, will take on Cocciaretto in the first match. Kubka recently lost to Magdalena Frech in the Polish National Championship. The World No. 472 will debut in the tour’s main draw. She has an overall record of 11–10 this year and a clay court record of 6–6. At the ITF level, the 21-year-old has had some success in doubles, taking home nine trophies out of 15 finals, including four on hard courts and five on clay. She has only participated in one ITF singles final, which took place in Santarém, Portugal in 2020. Beatriz Haddad Maia defeated her, though, and she was unable to win the title.
Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Martyna Kubka will face each other in the first round of the 2022 WTA Poland Open on Wednesday, July 27. The WTA 250 competition is scheduled to start from July 25 and end on July 31 this year.
