The Western & Southern Open, which will take place in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, from August 14–21, will be the next event on the US Open Series.
Men and women will compete for trophies at the Lindner Family Tennis Center over the course of the following week in one of the most prominent events on the tennis calendar. The women’s event is in the WTA 1000 division, while the men’s competition is a part of the ATP Masters 1000 series. Rafael Nadal, the 2013 winner, is back in play at the competition after having to retire from his Wimbledon semifinal match against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal injury. Due to the same ailment, he was forced to withdraw from the Canadian Open as well. The competition, which is led by World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, has the Spaniard seeded second. The third seed is Carlos Alcaraz, who was eliminated unexpectedly in the second round of the Montreal tournament by Tommy Paul. Stefanos Tsitsipas, the fourth seed, also wants to win some matches. The remaining four seeds in the top eight are Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
The match between two-time champion Serena Williams and the current US Open champion Emma Raducanu will be the most important first-round contest on the women’s side. The illustrious American, who will probably retire after the US Open, just claimed her first victory of the year at the Canadian Open. Iga Swiatek, the top-ranked player in the world, is in charge of the draw. Since winning the French Open, the Pole has been out of form, and this week she was eliminated in the round of 16 in Toronto. Global No. 2 The second seed is Anett Kontaveit, while the third and fourth seeds are Paula Badosa and Maria Sakkari, respectively. Ons Jabeur, Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, and Garbine Muguruza complete the top eight seeds.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
