The ATP Tour 250 tennis competition known as the men’s Swedish Open takes place in July in Bastad, Sweden. The International Swedish Hard Court Championships were the name of the competition when it was first held in 1948. The men’s competition took place on the Grand Prix tennis circuit between 1970 and 1989. South African Eric Sturgess won the first three competitions. Ilie Nastase (1971), Bjorn Borg (1974, 1978-1979), Mats Wilander (1982-1983, 1985), and Rafael Nadal are some more well-known winners (2005). In order to make room for the new hotel under the coastal bleachers, the stadium where the tournament is hosted underwent renovation in 2002.

On clay, Karatsev has prevailed in 20.8 percent of his return games and 66.7 percent of his serve games. Karatsev has won 19 out of 53 break points on clay (35.8 percent ).
