Pablo Carreno Busta and Jack Draper are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Saturday, August 13.
Pablo Carreno Busta continued his dominant run at the Canadian Open on Thursday, defeating seventh seed Jannik Sinner and advancing to the quarterfinals for the first time in his career. Carreno Busta had started his season by defeating another Italian, 11th seed Matteo Berrettini. He needed only 11 points on his serve to defeat the World No. 14, 6-3, 6-2. He followed that first-round victory with a 6-0, 6-3 thrashing of Holger Rune in Round 2 in just 56 minutes. In that match, Rune could only win nine return points. Following Thursday’s victory, the Spaniard improved his season record to 25-17. He is a finalist in Barcelona and a semifinalist in Bastad, and he will compete in his fourth quarterfinal of the season on Saturday.
The World No. 82’s dream debut in Montreal continued as he marched into the first quarterfinal of an ATP 1000 event. Jack Draper, who qualified for the main draw after his second qualifying opponent, Quentin Halys, retired after only four games, had won the biggest match of his career in the second round on Wednesday, defeating World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) in just over two hours. The 20-year-old had started his Montreal Challenge with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over another qualifier, Hugo Gaston. This is turning out to be a fantastic year for the Briton, who will compete in his second quarter final of the season. This year, the Eastbourne semifinalist also competed in his first four Challenger finals and won all four of them.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Jack Draper are scheduled to face one another in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Canadian Open on Saturday, August 13. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 8 till August 15.
