Pablo Carreno Busta was broken by Jack Draper in the Canadian Open quarterfinals after cruising past his first three opponents without facing a single break point. That one break, however, was insufficient for the World No. 82, as Carreno Busta stormed into the semis with yet another strong performance. Carreno Busta advanced to his third Masters 1000 semifinal of his career, and his first since the Miami Open in 2018. Throughout the tournament, the 31-year-old has been in excellent form. Carreno Busta improved his season record to 26-17 with the four victories. The 31-year-old reached his 11th ATP final earlier this year in Barcelona, but was unable to add to his six previous titles.

After being outplayed in the first set, World No. 39 Daniel Evans came back to defeat America’s Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Following his final four finish in Sydney earlier this year, the Briton, who was a quarterfinalist in Washington last week, will now compete in the second tour-level semifinal of the season. This is the third time this week that the 32-year-old has required three sets. He began his Canadian Open campaign by defeating Filip Krajinovic 6-2, 1-6, 6-0, and then defeated Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 7-5 in a two-hour-and-44-minute Round of 16 thriller. Evans’ only straight-set victory came in the second round against fifth seed Andrey Rublev.
