Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will take on each other in the semi-finals of the 2023 Miami Open on April 1.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Miami Open after his recent win at the Indian Wells Masters where he beat Medvedev in the finals. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Miami Open, he beat Bagnis in the first-round matchup by 6-0, 6-2, and in the second round, he beat Lajovic by 6-0, 7-6. In the round of 16 matchup, he beat Tommy Paul by 6-4, 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he beat Fritz by 6-4, 6-2.
Jannik Sinner has looked like a whole different player in the last couple of tournaments and will be determined to perform well in Miami Open as well. In his last tournament, which was the Indian Wells Masters, he got knocked out in the semi-finals to eventual champion, Alcaraz. In in the tournament before that, he lifted the trophy beating players such as Cressy, Fils, Sonego, and Fucsovics. At the Australian Open, he made it to the fourth round losing to Tsitsipas in what was a five-set thriller. At the Paris Masters, he couldn’t make it past the first stage mark, and at the Vienna Open, he lost to Medvedev in the quarter-finals after picking up crucial wins against Garin and Francisco Cerundolo. At the Rotterdam Open, he made it to the finals losing to Medvedev after beating the likes of Bonzi, Tsitsipas, Stanislas Wawrinka, and Griekspoor. In the ongoing Miami Open, he beat Djere in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-2, and in the second round, he beat Dimitrov by 6-3, 6-4. In the round of 16 matchup, he beat Rublev by 6-2, 6-4. In the quarter-finals, he beat Ruusuvuori by 3-6, 1-6.
