Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner will take on each other in the semi-finals of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters on March 18.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Indian Wells Masters after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Kokkinakis in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-3 and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Griekspoor by 7-6, 6-3. He received a walkover against Draper midway through the match when he was leading by 6-2, 2-0 in the round-of-16 matchup, and in the quarter-finals, he beat Auger-Aliassime by 6-4, 6-4.
Jannik Sinner has been in stellar form for the past few months and he will be adamant to perform well in the Indian Wells Masters as well. In his last tournament, which was the Open Sud De France he lifted the trophy beating players such as Cressy, Fils, Sonego, and Fucsovics. At the Australian Open, he made it to the fourth round losing to Tsitsipas in what was a five-set thriller. At the Paris Masters, he couldn’t make it past the first stage mark, and at the Vienna Open, he lost to Medvedev in the quarter-finals after picking up crucial wins against Garin and Francisco Cerundolo. At the Rotterdam Open, he made it to the finals losing to Medvedev after beating the likes of Bonzi, Tsitsipas, Stanislas Wawrinka, and Griekspoor. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Gasquet in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 7-6 and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Mannarino by 7-6, 6-4. He beat Wawrinka in the round of 16 matchup by 6-1, 6-4, and in the quarter-finals, he beat Fritz by 4-6, 6-4, 4-6.
