Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev will take on each other in the final of the 2023 Indian Wells Masters on March 20.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz has been the star kid that has got the whole world talking and he will be even more confident at the Indian Wells Masters after his recent win at the Argentina Open where he beat Norrie in the finals and on the way also beat the likes of Zapata Miralles, Lajovic and Djere. At the Swiss Indoors, he made it to the semi-finals losing to Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and at the Paris Masters, he had to withdraw from the match against Rune when the latter was winning that match 3-6, 6-6. He was a huge success at the US Open after which he took a month’s gap from tennis. He beat Ruud in the final in what was a four-set thriller for the fans. In the Rio Open, he again made it to the finals but this time lost the title despite winning the first set of the match to Cameron Norrie who took revenge for his defeat in Argentina. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Kokkinakis in the first-round matchup by 6-3, 6-3 and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Griekspoor by 7-6, 6-3. He received a walkover against Draper midway through the match when he was leading by 6-2, 2-0 in the round-of-16 matchup, and in the quarter-finals, he beat Auger-Aliassime by 6-4, 6-4. In the semis, he beat Sinner by 7-6, 6-3.
Tournament favorite Daniil Medvedev has been in the form of his life recently having won three consecutive tournaments. He has made it to the later stages of the majority of the tournaments he has played in the last couple of months. He lost to Sebastian Korda at the Australian Open in the third round after beating Millman and Giron in the first two matches. At the Paris Masters, he lost to de Minaur in the opening round itself, and at the ATP World Tour Finals, he failed to register a single win. At the Vienna Open, his time finally came as he lifted the trophy after beating the likes of Shapovalov, Dimitrov, Sinner, Thiem, and Basilashvili. At the Rotterdam Open, he lifted the title beating the likes of Sinner, Dimitrov, Davidovich Fokina, Van de Zandschulp, and Auger-Aliassime. After that, he also lifted the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships. In the ongoing Indian Wells, he beat Nakashima in the first-round matchup by 6-4, 6-3, and in the round of 32 matchup, he beat Ivashka by 6-2, 3-6, 6-1. He beat Zverev in the round of 16 matchup by 6-7, 7-6, 7-5 and beat Davidovich Fokina in the quarter-finals by 6-3, 7-5. In the semis, he beat Tiafoe by 7-5, 7-6.
