The absence of Novak Djokovic might have hurt Serbia in the first match as they lost to Spain without winning a single game, but they came back strong in their second match. The Serbian singles players shone as the team beat South Korea 2-1. Dusan Lajovic was in action first against Seong Chan Hong and he took a comfortable 6-4, 6-0 victory. It was then Miomir Kecmanovic’s turn who made short work of Soonwoo Kwon, beating the Korean star by a score of 6-3, 6-4. The doubles team of the Asian nation tasted success as Jisung Nam and Minkyu Song defeated the team of Nikola Cacic and Filip Krajinovic 6-4, 6-2.
Canada survived a scare against South Korea in their first match, winning 2-1 after a day of scintillating tennis action. Kwon defeated Canadian sensation Felix Auger-Aliassime 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 but Vasek Pospisil and the team of Auger-Aliassime and Pospisil got their respective wins to take the game. Pospisil beat Seong Chan Hong 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in the singles match.
Serbia and Canada are set to face each other in a Group B match on Saturday, September 17 in the 2022 Davis Cup. The group stage of the competition is scheduled to begin on September 13 and conclude on September 18 this year.
