No. 44 in the world Alexander Bublik advanced to the final four of a tournament for the third time in his career after defeating fourth seed Holger Rune in the quarterfinals on Friday. After winning the first set, the 25-year-old Kazakh player served for the match at 5-3 in the second set, but the tenacious Dane fought back, winning four games in a row to force the deciding set. In the third set, there was only one break of serve, which went to Bublik, who eventually won the match 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in an hour and 59 minutes. This season, Bublik has improved to 27-22. He won his first ATP title in Montpellier earlier this year and then advanced to another final in Newport, only to finish runner up.

The 16-time tour-level champion now has a chance to make his 31st ATP final, and his first since losing to Andy Murray in Antwerp in 2019. Wawrinka, who last won a title in 2017 in Geneva, will be looking to end his five-year title drought in Metz.
