On September 25th, Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik, the seventh seed, will compete against Italy's Lorenzo Sonego in the 2022 Moselle Open final.
After Stan Wawrinka, his semifinal foe, was forced to quit after just three games in the first set on Saturday, Alexander Bublik advanced to his third final of the year. The 25-year-old, who earlier this year defeated Alexander Zverev in the Montpellier final to win his first ATP title, reached the final in Newport as well, but lost to Maxime Cressy in the championship match. Bublik has improved to 28-22 this year and will compete in his sixth ATP final on Sunday. He started his campaign in Metz by defeating French qualifier Evan Furness with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), and he then defeated Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round with a score of 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3. Bublik had defeated the fourth seed Holger Rune 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the quarterfinal on Friday. Can Bublik defeat Sonego on Sunday and win a second tour-level championship by doing so for the first time on the tour?
On Saturday, Lorenzo Sonego defeated Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, to advance to the fifth tour-level final of his career. With a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 triumph, the World No. 65, who entered the match with a better head-to-head record than the World No. 10, increased his advantage to 3-1 on the tour and 4-2 overall. After winning on Saturday, Sonego raised his record to 22-24 and will attempt to capture his third championship on Sunday. He hasn’t lost a set yet in this competition. Aslan Karatsev, a sixth seed, and Gilles Simon were the first two opponents he defeated. On Friday, he eliminated Sebastian Korda to go to the semifinals. He’ll be looking to duplicate the performance on Sunday after another strong showing on Saturday.
