On Sunday, the 2022 Atlanta Open final will feature home favourite Jenson Brooksby and third seed Alex de Minaur.
After defeating Adrian Mannarino and James Duckworth, Alex de Minaur faced Ilya Ivashka in the semifinals. He made a good start to the match, taking the first set by a score of 3-0. The next three games in a succession were won by his rival, though, bringing the score even. Near the end of the set, De Minaur dropped serve once more; Ivashka then served it out to take the set. In the second set, the Australian quickly built a 4-1 advantage. This time, he prevented his opponent from mounting a comeback, and he quickly won the set to force a deciding. Like the second set, the third set went relatively smoothly. Ivashka was unable to rally to tie or overtake De Minaur’s 4-1 lead at any point in the game. The 23-year-old triumphed 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 to go to his second final in Atlanta and 10th overall. He achieved victory here in 2019.
Benoit Paire, Mackenzie McDonald, and the reigning champion John Isner were all upset by Jenson Brooksby, who then faced Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals. The 21-year-old got off to an impressive start by leading 3-0. The young American won the following three games to win the opening set after his opponent held serve. Beginning the second set with a break of serve, Brooksby took a 2-0 lead. He clung to his advantage all the way to the end. At 5-4, he took the match’s final serve, but Tiafoe resisted till the very end. Brooksby had to save a break point after missing the opening few match points. On his sixth effort, he managed to win 6-1, 6-4 and advance to his third career final after squandering three more match points.
Alex de Minaur and Jenson Brooksby will take on each other on Sunday, July 31 in the final of the 2022 Atlanta Open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 25 and conclude on July 31 this year.
