Tuesday's second round of the 2022 ATP Citi Open will feature a matchup between Croatia's Borna Gojo, who is rated 198th in the world, and world number 26 Botic van de Zandschulp.

Van de Zandschulp intended to participate in a clay court tournament in Hamburg before this US Open Series but lost his first match there after reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon. After a 7-6 win-loss record on hard courts during this season, he now returns to playing on those courts. Van de Zandschulp isn’t a particularly good hard court player overall, particularly in outdoor hard court competitions, where he only made his debut in 2019 after starting his career in 2011. It’s noteworthy that van de Zandschulp reached two Challenger circuit hard court competition finals in the 2019–2020 season. Can he replicate that performance going into this match in the second round?
Gojo advanced to the main draw thanks to back-to-back victories in the qualifying rounds, but his odds against James Duckworth were 6/4. In the end, Borna Gojo not only prevailed in his first-round match but also did so while occupying a vulnerable position in the contest. Gojo lost his service in the 11th game of the second set, giving up a set and a break in a match that lasted two hours and 13 minutes. Gojo won the tiebreaker to force a third set, which he subsequently won by breaking Duckworth again. This gave him the victory. He will now have a greater task than in the first round, but after three straight victories, Gojo will be bursting with confidence.
Botic van de Zandschulp and Borna Gojo will face each other in the first round of the 2022 Citi open on Tuesday, August 2. The ATP 500 competition is scheduled to start from August 1 and end on August 7 this year.
The 2022 Citi Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 1 and conclude on August 8 this year.
