There wasn’t much to differentiate between the two players, but Katerina Siniakova had a little lead at 8/11 to win their second round match. Ana Bogdan, on the other hand, came through in straight sets to secure her final eight berth. Bogdan, who is rated 108th in the world and has reached the latter stages of WTA125 events this year, will win back-to-back matches in a WTA 250 (or above) competition in 2022. She defeated Siniakova 6-0, 6-4 to progress to the next round in one hour and 36 minutes. Bogdan broke her opponent five times during the match and received only one in return.

Laura Pigossi was eliminated in the second qualifying round but advanced to the main draw as a fortunate loser. And now, in the last two rounds, Pigossi has won back-to-back matches against players who were heavy favorites in those matches. She was a 7/5 favorite to overcome Varvara Gracheva in straight sets in the first round, but it was her second round victory that would be much more valuable. Pigossi won the battle of the South Americans, overcoming a first-set setback to Nadia Podoroska to advance to the quarterfinals 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 in two hours and seven minutes.
