On Monday, Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina will play Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain in the opening round of the 2022 ATP Cincinnati Open.
18 in the world all season long, Roberto Bautista Agut has been in respectable shape. He has generated positive outcomes and advanced far in tournaments regardless of the playing field. He won a clay court championship in Kitzbuhel, reached the grass court final in Mallorca, and won a hard court championship in Qatar. The Spaniard most recently competed in the Canadian Open, where he defeated Marcos Giron and Jenson Brooksby in the first two rounds, respectively, before losing to Casper Ruud in a thrilling three-set Round of 16 match. The 34-year-old enters the event with a 29-12 season record as a result of all those efforts. The 11-time tour-level champion in Cincinnati has an 8-7 record. He lost to Grigor Dimitrov in the first round last year despite reaching the semifinals in 2020 and the quarterfinals in 2009.
Francisco Cerundolo has displayed excellent tennis this year and is ready to bounce back from his Canadian Open loss in the opening round. The 23-year-old Argentine is 20-13 this year after winning his first championship in Bastad last month. He also advanced to the semifinals in Hamburg in the final week of July, but his loss to Karen Khachanov in Montreal’s opening match in August didn’t exactly have the same effect on his transition to hard court. The World No. 27, who is 14-7 on clay, also advanced to the Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires quarterfinals. While success on clay was anticipated, everyone’s attention was drawn to his performance there. Cerundolo, who entered the Miami Open ranked 103rd, defeated some top players on route to the quarterfinals before losing to Casper Ruud.
Roberto Bautista Agut and Francisco Cerundolo are scheduled to face one another in the Opening round of the 2022 Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 15. The tournament is scheduled to run from August 14 till August 21.
The 2022 Cincinnati Open will see six rounds of action excluding the qualifiers. These include the round of 64, round of 32, round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final for both men’s and women’s. The tournament is scheduled to commence on August 14 and conclude on August 21 this year.
