The sixth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia will face Aslan Karatsev of Russia in the first round of 2022 Hamburg open on Tuesday.

The first round of an ATP 500 series tournament taking place in Germany will now feature a match between two players who were cited by the German media earlier this month for potential match-fixing. Aslan Karatsev managed to put on a few solid performances in Bastad last week despite all the controversy that has surrounded him. In order to go to the quarterfinals, he defeated Lorenzo Sonego in a three-set match in the first round and trounced Hugo Gaston in the second. Since the Australian Open in January 2022, it was only the first time the Russian had succeeded in winning two matches in a row. After winning the title in his season opener in Sydney, he completely lost his way, and over the course of the last seven months, he has only won 12 out of a potential 29 games.
Last week, Nikoloz Basilashvili, who was also in Bastad, was forced to withdraw from his match against Hugo Gaston in the first round. His eight-match winning streak in games played in the first round of tour-level competitions was snapped by this. In Hamburg, where he has won more matches than any other tournament on the main tour, the Georgian #1 will now make his sixth visit. He won his first ATP 500 title here in 2018 and did a great job defending it in the following season in 2019, outlasting opponents like Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev.
Nikoloz Basilashvili and Aslan Karatsev will take on each other on Tuesday, July 19 in the first round of the 2022 ATP Hamburg European open. The competition is scheduled to commence on July 18 and conclude on July 24 this year.

The 2022 Hamburg European Open will have five rounds of play both for the ATP and WTA competitors. These are the first round, second round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. The tournament is scheduled to be held from July 18 to July 24, but the qualifiers will commence from July 16 for both the men’s and women’s categories.
