The ATP Tour 250 tennis competition known as the men’s Swedish Open takes place in July in Bastad, Sweden. The International Swedish Hard Court Championships were the name of the competition when it was first held in 1948. The men’s competition took place on the Grand Prix tennis circuit between 1970 and 1989. South African Eric Sturgess won the first three competitions. In order to make room for the new hotel under the coastal bleachers, the stadium where the tournament is hosted underwent renovation in 2002.
