Paula Badosa’s victory over Louis Chirico in the second round ended her losing streak of three games, during which she had lost to Petra Martic at the US Open, Qinwen Zheng in Tokyo, and Petra Kvitova in Ostrava. Badosa only spent 54 minutes on the court during her 6-0, 6-3 demolition of her American opponent after receiving a bye in the first round here. In the second set, Chirico gained some of her own advantage, going up a break twice, but Badosa broke both times. Danielle Collins had no trouble knocking out Martina Trevisan in the second round after her shocking victory over Caroline Garcia. Collins, who began the season with a title-decider appearance at the Australian Open before having a start-and-stop year, needed an hour and 24 minutes to defeat her opponent. Collins raced to a 5-0 lead in a match that featured 11 serve breaks before dropping her serve for the first time. She quickly broke back to win the set, but the second proved more difficult as both players struggled to hold their serves. Collins took a 5-4 lead on serve after six serve breaks, but the American broke Trevisan again to love to advance to the quarterfinals.
