Novak Djokovic, the fourth seed, and Alex de Minaur, the 22nd seed, will square off on January 23 in the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open. After winning the Adelaide International 1 earlier this month and the ATP Finals for the sixth time in his career to close out the 2022 season, the Serbian is more assured than ever. The World No. 5 defeated Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets despite having a hamstring issue to start his quest for a 22nd Major. In the second match, he prevailed in four sets over Enzo Couacaud. In the third round, he defeated Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets to extend their head-to-head record to 10-1.

In order to advance to the quarterfinals, Alex de Minaur must defeat the nine-time champion and win the opening Grand Slam match of the year on Tuesday at Rod Laver Arena. The Australian, 23, has similar results to his opponent after two straight-set victories and one four-set victory. Taiwan’s Yu Hsiou Hsu was defeated by De Minaur in the opening round by scores of 6-2, 6-2, and 6-3. The 24-year-old defeated Benjamin Bonzi by scores of 7-6(0), 6-2, and 6-1 before defeating Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in his second match by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3), and 6-1. He reached the Australian Open’s round of 16 for the second year in a row.
