Felix Auger-Aliassime faced Rafael Nadal in a must-win tie after losing to Casper Ruud in the first round-robin match. He was put under pressure from the start of the match, but he saved a couple of break points to keep serve. In the seventh game, the Canadian saved two more break points to make the score 4-3. In the next game, Nadal led 40-0 on his serve, but Auger-Aliassime broke it to go up 5-3. He then easily finished the set and carried the momentum into the second set. Auger-Aliassime took an early break to lead 3-1, effectively sealing the deal in his favour. Auger-Aliassime eventually won 6-3, 6-4.

Taylor Fritz won his first ATP Finals match, defeating Rafael Nadal in straight sets. In his second group tie, he faced Ruud. The American fell behind early in the first set, trailing 3-0, and was unable to recover, eventually losing the opener. Fritz had three break point opportunities in the second set and could have taken an early lead. With Ruud serving at 5-4, the 25-year-old found an opening, breaking his opponent’s serve and clinching the set. The final set was fiercely contested, with neither player willing to give up any ground. Ruud led 5-1 in the ensuing tie-break, but Fritz saved two match points to tie the match at 6-6. Unfortunately, the American’s fight was short-lived, as he was defeated 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (6).

Format
