One of the most exciting ATP 250 competitions of the season over the past five years, the ATP European Open will return to Antwerp, Belgium on Monday, October 17 this year. Italian tennis sensation Jannik Sinner was the champion last season who beat Diego Schwartzman in the final 6-2, 6-2. Sinner will not be a part of the tournament this year but there will be quite a few big names in Antwerp regardless. The provisional top seed right now is Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, who is ranked 11th in the world. 2021 runner-up Schwartzman is seeded third behind Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime. The ATP European Open is a relatively new tournament which will see its seventh edition begin from Monday.

The tournament was founded in 2016. Schwartzman has reached the final of the tournament on three occasions but has never emerged victorious. The first ever champion was Richard Gasquet who beat the Argentine 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Among the favourites to win the European Open are the likes of Hurkacz, Auger-Aliassime and Schwartzman. Young Dutch player Botic van de Zandschulp, who has been in impresive form so far this year can also be the one to get a shock title victory.
