Bianca Andreescu has had a decent run in the 2022 Canadian Open so far and she will now face the test of Qinwen Zheng in the round of 16. Andreescu, who is playing her home WTA 1000 competition, beat Alize Cornet in the previous round by a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. The Canadian converted six out of 13 break points and recorded win percentages of 60% and 58% on the first and second serves respectively. Earlier, Andreescu had defeated 11th seed Daria Kasatkina in a thriller. That win set the tone for the home favourite and she will be looking to play her best tennis in her own backyard.

After beating Rebecca Marino the first round, Qinwen Zheng had to go up against fifth seed Ons Jabeur. The 2022 Wimbledon runner-up did not get a good start as she found herself on the wrong side of a 6-1 score-line. The Tunisian then began to play the second set but retired midway citing injury concerns. It was a lucky break for Zheng who otherwise would have had to deal with one of the world’s best a bit too early.

2022 Canadian Open Schedule

The 2022 edition of the Canadian Open is set to begin from August 8 and go on until August 15. The men’s final is scheduled to be on August 15 and the women’s one is set to be held on August 14. There will be six rounds of play in the main draw excluding the qualifiers.
