In Geneva, Alexander Zverev extended his remarkable unbeaten run by winning five straight matches in the competition. In the second round of the Miami Masters in 2023, Christopher Eubanks, who had advanced to the quarterfinals, was defeated by him. The match featured a battle of two strong servers; the third seed was able to break Eubanks’ serve four times while only coming up against one breakpoint himself. Zverev won 6-2, 6-3. Daniil Medvedev, his sworn enemy, has prevented him from progressing past the Masters quarterfinals three times this year. These encounters happened in Rome, Monte Carlo, and Indian Wells. Another formidable foe, Carlos Alcaraz, in Madrid, also interfered with his pursuit of a noteworthy outcome.

In his first outing on the European clay swing, Yibing Wu demonstrated a noticeable improvement. Despite his initial failures in Barcelona and Madrid last month, he recently won his first match on clay (in tournaments at the tour level) against Richard Gasquet in Rome, marking a significant milestone. With this success as a springboard, he has since surprised Marc-Andrea Huesler and Marco Cecchinato by making it all the way to the quarterfinals. In Dallas, where he defeated well-known players like Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz to win his first ATP title, the talented Chinese won consecutive matches for the last and only time this year in ATP competitions.
