He reached his first ATP Tour final two months later at the 2021 Croatia Open, where he defeated Richard Gasquet to win his first title, making him the youngest ATP Tour title winner since Kei Nishikori in 2008. After making his Grand Slam quarterfinal debut at the 2021 US Open, he broke into the top 50, and his breakthrough success qualified him for the 2021 Next Generation ATP Finals, the year-end tournament for the top-ranked singles players aged 21 and under, which he won. He finished the season as the highest-ranked teenager in 2021, with a career-high ranking of No. 32.
