Carlos Alcaraz and David Goffin will take on each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Tuesday, October 4.
When Carlos Alcaraz won his first grand slam victory and rose to the top of the world rankings at the US Open last month, he couldn’t have asked for more. He had a difficult fortnight since, in the tournament’s second week, he won three straight five-set matches, and in the match that decided the championship, he overcame challenges from Casper Ruud. The Davis Cup last month saw the Spanish kid lose his debut game as the world’s number one in three sets to Felix Auger Aliassime. After winning his subsequent Davis Cup match against Soon Woo Kwon, he decided not to participate in the Laver Cup in order to have more time to recuperate and prepare for this decisive stage.
In the second set, David Goffin blew several match opportunities, and on Sunday’s final day of qualifying, he was defeated by Luca Nardi of Italy. Jannik Sinner’s withdrawal, however, gave him the opportunity to enter the main draw as a lucky loser. The Belgian, who reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals in 2022 and had probably his best season of his career on clay, has had trouble winning matches on hard courts over the past ten months. In tour-level competitions this year, he has a record of 7/13 on outdoor hard courts and 2/4 indoor hard courts.
Carlos Alcaraz and David Goffin are scheduled to face each other in the round of 32 of the 2022 ATP Astana Open on Tuesday, October 4. The tournament is scheduled to begin on October 3 and end on October 9.
The ATP Astana Open 2022 will feature five rounds of competition apart from the qualifying matches. These are the round of 32, round of 16, quarter-final, semi-final and final. The tournament is scheduled to start on Monday, October 3 and conclude on Sunday, October 9.
