Marin Cilic, the 2016 Cincinnati Open champion, outlasted Emil Ruusuvuori in a dramatic three-set second round match on Wednesday. The Croatian improved to 19-11 in Cincinnati with a 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 victory over the Finn in three hours and 18 minutes. Ruusuvuori was serving for the match at 4-5 in the final set when Cilic broke him to love for the second time in the set to stay in the game. In the final game, he broke for the fourth time in the set to earn his 25th victory of the season. In the first round, the 14th seed defeated Spanish qualifier Jaume Munar 6-3, 6-3. Cilic is currently ranked 17th in the world and has reached four semifinals this year.
