Radu Albot and Steve Johnson will face each other in the round of 16 of the 2022 ATP Korea Open on Wednesday, September 28.
This week’s first-round victory over Ji Sung Nam, a wildcard entrant, by Steve Johnson ended his losing streak of three matches and put him back on the winning track. The South Korean put up a good fight and made the first set go to a tiebreaker, but the American never seemed in danger and won the match, 7-6 6-4, without encountering a breakpoint. The American needs one more victory to qualify for both the second part of the quarterfinals and his third quarterfinal appearance of the season. On the grass courts at Newport two months ago and Los Cabos a few weeks later, he reached that stage.
Radu Albot defeated lucky loser Hiroki Moriya in the opening round of the ATP Seoul tournament, giving him a rare main-draw victory in tour-level competition this year. Up until he served for the match at 5-2 in the second set, 6-3 6-4, he was unaffected throughout the match. The 2022 season’s first half saw the Moldovan perform poorly, but the second half has seen him rebound and perform admirably. He won the championship in his most recent contest at the Istanbul Challenger earlier this month. He earned his first quarterfinal appearance on the main tour this year in Los Cabos last month.
