The action started with defending silver medallists Australian women beating Trinidad & Tobago 2-0 before Vanuatu got the better of Solomon Islands by the same scoreline.
Beach volleyball which will take place from 30th July to 7th August will be present in the Commonwealth Games for only the second time.
Men’s silver medallists Canada defeated Sri Lanka 2-0, while the Gambia overcame St Kitts & Nevis by the same scoreline.
Some of the biggest teams in the event will be participating in the day's play, which will also see the tournament hosts - England - in action.
Beach volleyball takes place from 30th July to 7th August and the knockout matches begin on fifth August, with the finals taking place on the seventh of next month.
