Sajan Prakash is one of the biggest names in Indian swimming. Last year, he broke the FINA automatic (A) Olympic qualifying mark for the 200-meter butterfly event in the Sette Colli Trophy 2021 in Rome, becoming the first Indian swimmer to do so. His time of 1:56.38 was an Indian national record. With this, he earned a Tokyo Olympic 2020 berth. The 29-year-old is also the first Indian swimmer to qualify for two consecutive Olympic Games.

Sajan has won three gold medals – 200m Butterfly, 1500m Freestyle, and 4X200m Freestyle relay in the South Asian Games 2016. In the Asian Games 2018, Sajan became the first Indian to book a place in the finals of the 200m Butterfly in 32 years by clocking 1:58.12 secs. In the finals, he finished fifth with a timing of 1:57.75, narrowly missing out on a podium finish. He also represented India in the Commonwealth Games 2018 where he finished eighth in the 200m fly finals.

The Kerala-born swimmer shot to fame during the previous edition of the National Games (2015) by winning six gold and three silver medals for the host team. He was also adjudged the ‘Best Athlete’ of the National Games. As the games are returning after a gap of seven years, Sajan will be keen to replicate his dominating show in this iteration as well.
