When it comes to breaststroke, it does not get bigger than Adam Peaty. The British swimmer continues to rule the world in that category, winning a plethora of awards over the last few years. He is notably the current defending champion in the Olympics 100m breaststroke event. One of the best players of his generation, Peaty’s ability to absorb pressure and perform consistently at the biggest stage helps him stay at the top of his game. With the world at his feet, he will be eager to maintain the momentum going into the Tokyo Olympics.

After beginning his career at the 2013 European Short Course Swimming Championships, it did not take long for the British swimmer to establish his name at the top level. In the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Peaty announced his arrival with a Gold each in 100m breaststroke and 4Ă—100m medley. He also won the 50m breaststroke Silver to end the Games in style.

Peaty became a World Champion for the first time at the 2015 World Championships, winning the Gold in the 100 metre breaststroke. He added two more Gold medals to his kitty with the 50m breaststroke and the 4×100m mixed medley. With the best in the world competing for top honours, Peaty’s exploits quickly made him a household name in the sport.

He maintained the momentum going into the 2016 Rio Olympics and was rightly considered a medal hopeful. Among the individual events, Peaty only competed in the 100 metre breaststroke in Rio. He had set a world record in the heats, before breaking it again en route to his maiden Olympic Gold. His memorable Summer Games culminated with a Silver in the 4 Ă— 100 metre medley relay.

No longer deemed a future prospect, Peaty has arrived at the biggest stage in some style. He carried on that form, winning five more World Championships Gold medals. Notably in the 2019 Championships, he won the 50m and the 100m breaststroke. Besides, the 4Ă—100m medley Gold secured by his team is the first Gold won by the British team in this event at the Championships.

In the midst of it, he also won the European Championships twelve times.  Most of his medals came in the 50m and the 100m breaststroke categories, and the 4×100m medley sections. Besides, he also won a Gold in the 100m breaststroke at the 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships.

Among his many notable achievements, Peaty’s exploits in the World Championships and the Olympics will stand out from the rest. Competing amongst the best in the business, Peaty’s ability to consistently finish at the top makes him one of the best swimmers over the last few years. At 26 years, he can only get better.
