As the Italian league prepares to resume after a two-week holiday break, one out of every ten players has tested positive for the coronavirus. Despite the fact that roughly 60 players have been believed to have contracted COVID-19, full slates of ten matches involving all 20 clubs are set for Thursday and Sunday. Salernitana is the worst-affected club, with nine players infected with COVID-19, while Inter Milan, Napoli, and Juventus are also missing key players due to the illness.

Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has tested positive while playing for Parma in Serie B. Inter and Juventus reportedly attempted to postpone the Italian Super Cup match at the San Siro in Milan set for next week, but the Italian league ruled against it.

Following a government edict aimed at combating the newest outbreak, stadium capacities have been cut from 75% to 50%, and fans must now wear FFP2 masks.

The question of whether the edict forces all Serie A players to get vaccinated remains unanswered, but the argument could be settled if the government mandates vaccination for all workers in the country by February 1.

Despite the fact that nearly all Serie A players have been inoculated (about 98 percent), nearly 30 players have apparently refused the vaccine. Foreign players that travel to Italy to face Italian teams are likely to be excluded from the vaccine requirement.

Tuanzebe reportedly close to joining Napoli on loan

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is reportedly close to completing a loan deal to Napoli. Although talks between United and Napoli are still underway, Tuanzebe is poised to leave Aston Villa and join the Italian club. The defender joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer, but the defender has failed to find playing time under Steven Gerrard and will now join Napoli until the end of the season. The Serie A team is unlikely to have the option of making his move permanent.

The agreement is most likely to be a loan until the end of the season, as Napoli does not have the option of making it permanent. Tuanzebe has only started six Premier League games for Villa this season, and he was left out of their squad for their match against Brentford on Sunday.
