Former Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco has spoken positively of Italian striker Lorenzo Insigne‘s potential move to the Canadian club. The Napoli captain is heavily linked to a Major League Soccer (MLS) move but he reportedly wants to see off the ongoing season with the Serie A giants. Insigne will be a free agent on June 30 with his contract expiring and is reportedly set to meet the Toronto FC officials on Friday with his agent Vincenzo Pisacane.

Moreover, Toronto FC, has also shown interest in signing his national teammate and striker Andrea Belotti from Torino. “First I have to say that they (Insigne and Belotti) are very good players. Of course, for the league and for TFC it will be amazing, I hope they can make it happen,” Giovinco told Italian Football TV’s Marco Messina. “There is a good life in Toronto but if you want to talk about soccer, I cannot say it is the same. They are starting to improve but they are not on the same level.”

Giovinco cautions Insigne

However, looking back at his own experience, the all-time leading goal-scorer for the franchise has cautioned Insigne about his selection for the national team. But feels that Italy and former Manchester City head coach Roberto Mancini might have a different philosophy on his move to MLS.

“I can only say on my side what happened to me. When I came here, I left the national team. That’s the reality,” Giovinco told IFTV.  “Of course, maybe for them, it will be different because they won the Euro Cup. Maybe they will talk with Mr. Mancini and maybe they don’t even leave the national team. So maybe for them, nothing changes.”

Giovinco, who currently plies his trade for Al Hilal in the Saudi Professional League, is also keen on the prospect of reuniting with Insigne and Belotti in the MLS. “This is what I want but I think it will be difficult,” Giovinco said.

Furthermore, Giovinco has made it clear that he wants to return to Toronto and in a bid to do so, he has not listened to offers from other clubs. However, it remains to be seen if Toronto FC can adjust the prolific goal scorer back to the side, if the Insigne deal is sealed.
