Arsenal have reportedly contacted the agent of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez and the Argentine footballer’s future at San Siro remains in the air. The 24-year-old’s contract with the Serie A champions extends till the summer of 2026. However Inter would reportedly be willing to sell the striker if an offer in the margin of EUR 70 million was submitted. Calciomercato.com reports that both Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are interested in securing the striker’s services.

The Gunners are in the market for a frontline striker after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left for Barcelona in January and both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will see their contract expire at the end of the season, they will then be able to leave the club for a free transfer, leaving head coach Mikel Arteta short of options up front.

The Argentine has scored 65 goals and registered 22 assists in 171 appearances for the Nerazzurri since making the move to the Serie A club from Racing club in 2018. This season also he has been in very good form, having found the back of the net 16 times for Simone Inzaghi’s side in all competitions so far.  Meanwhile there have been reports that he could be allowed to leave Inter if Paulo Dybala arrives at San Siro for free this summer.

Martinez’ current contract with Inter earns him EUR 6 million net per season until 2026, making him one of the highest paid players at San Siro, Inter would prefer to keep him. The Nerazzurri were forced to sell Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi last summer due to financial concerns, a situation that frustrated many fans in the Lombardy capital.

Arsenal are currently placed fourth in the league standings with 54 points from 28 games, three points above fifth-placed Manchester United, who have played a game more. If Arteta’s side can secure Champions League qualification at the end of the season, it will certainly attract quality footballers to Emirates in the summer.
