'The team did well on a technical level,' says Juventus boss Allegri after the 3-1 win over Sampdoria

The win helped Allegri’s side to 56 points from 29 games just seven behind league leaders AC Milan who defeated Empoli 1-0 in the other match of the day.

Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri was delighted with his side’s performance in the 3-1 win over Sampdoria in the Serie A fixture on Saturday. Allegri felt that his side “did well on a technical level” as they registered just three shots on target in the entire match but managed to find the back of the net three times. Juve took the lead through Maya Yoshida’s own goal before Alvaro Marata doubled the lead and, though Abdelhamid Samiri pulled one back for the hosts Morata’s second of the night sealed Juve’s victory.

“Alvaro is one of the best forwards on a technical level in Europe. He will struggle more if you use him with his back to goal. If he plays a little wider, with the space to run inside and use his characteristics, he’s excellent,” Allegri told DAZN.

“The team did well on a technical level today. We need to improve when we’re in control of the match, lower the tempo and then speed it up with a vertical pass to close it. We need to understand when it’s time to be patient and wait a moment.

“Sampdoria are not an easy team to face, we needed this result to consolidate fourth place and prepare for Villarreal in the best way.”

Juventus’ star-strike Dusan Vlahovic started on the bench for the first time since joining the club in January as Allegri decided to give some rest to the Serbian. Therefore Moise Kean started up front alongside Morata. Kean did well to earn a penalty for his side when he was brought down inside the box by Omar Colley and the referee pointed to the spot. Morata stepped up and converted the spot-kick for his first of the night.

When asked about Kean’s performance, the coach said: “Kean did well, he earned the penalty, sparked the move for the first goal, so he is an important player for this squad. Naturally, he is young and still needs to improve, especially his touch and control, but can be devastating when he has space to run into.”

Although Sampdoria played some good football and created more chances compared to their opponents, they weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. The home side’s only goal came in the 84th minute when Samiri’s free-kick took a huge deflection off Morata and looped beyond a helpless Szczesny into the net.

But Juventus sealed the three points when Morata headed home from Manuel Locatelli’s cross. The win helped Allegri’s side to 56 points from 29 games just seven behind league leaders AC Milan who defeated Empoli 1-0 in the other match of the day.
