It looks likely that there will be a brand new tournament in the United States with Serie A teams involved. It’s not clear yet how many clubs will come or which players will participate and at the moment it’s just an idea  in the early stages of development. But Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo told Calcio e Finanza that Serie A will be on its way to America during the World Cup. The tournament would take place between November and December, while most eyes are on Qatar for World Cup 2022 taking place. This will be the first time that soccer’s premier event takes place during the middle of the European season and Serie A is looking to capitalize on the pause.

WE WANT TO KEEP OUT PLAYERS IN SHAPE – SERIA A CEO

“We want to keep our players in shape as we promote ourselves in a market that we consider strategic,” De Siervo said. “The matches would be scheduled to avoid any overlap with the World Cup fixtures”. This is the first time that the league has confirmed the intention to organize a parallel tournament and in the next weeks there will be updates about the plan. In theory, this tournament would allow coaches and players who aren’t participating in the World Cup to continue their preparations for the second part of the season, and maintain their fitness for matches that will be scheduled to resume right after the end of the tournament.

The Qatar World Cup will start on November 21 and the final will take place on December 18. Serie A has not yet announced the fixtures for the season 2022-23 but it is likely that it will be similar to other European leagues. The Premier League will start on August 6 and the last round of the competition before the break for the World Cup will take place on November 12. The league will resume on Boxing Day on December 26, eight days after the World Cup final. The last round of the 2022-2023 Premier League will be played on 28 May 2023.
