Inter Milan’s new signing Robin Gosens has revealed that “he wants to become an important player for Inter” and his first dream as an Inter player is to get back on the pitch as soon as he can. The German full-back came to San Siro from Atalanta on a deal reportedly worth EUR 25 million until 2026. The 27-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year contract in Milan and moves on loan with an obligation to buy. It was one of the most exciting signings of the winter transfer window as, despite being currently out of action with a muscle injury, Gosens has been one of the best full-backs in Serie A over the last few years.

He is now currently recovering from a thigh injury and played his last Serie A match on September 25 and has only made eight appearances across all competitions this season. He is not expected to return to action for at least another month.

The 27-year-old released an interview to DAZN to talk about his first few days at San Siro and how he is settling in at his new club.

“I want to return to action as soon as possible and become an important player for Inter,” he said.

“I have the ambition to play a key role here and I want to take part in the World Cup at the end of the year. These are my two dreams for the year.

“I met President Zhang at his office and he told me that he is Inter’s No.1 fan. He told me that I am playing for a prestigious club. He motivated me, telling me that Inter play at a high level and saying that the club trusts me.”

Douglas Costa was the most difficult opponent: Gosens

Meanwhile, becoming a footballer wasn’t Gosens’ dream as he has revealed that he “wanted to be a police officer,”

“I only played with friends until I was 18, I hadn’t played in any youth sector. When I returned home, I was sure that I wanted to follow in my grandpa’s footsteps and become a police officer, then I moved to Holland and everything changed.”

Who was his idol and who is the best player he’s ever faced?

“David Alaba was my favourite player because he’s always played in different roles always at a very high level.

“Douglas Costa was the most difficult opponent. When he was on his day, he was almost unstoppable, I hope he can return to that level.”

The defender played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s impressive showing in the Italian league in the last few seasons. They have managed to achieve three consecutive third-place finishes in Serie A.  Gosens, Achraf Hakimi and Theo Hernandez are the only defenders to have contributed to at least nine goals in the opening 21 Serie A games in the last 15 years.
