South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Penrith Panthers is scheduled for August 18. Penrith is only one win away from securing the minor premiership despite being blanked by the Storm at home last Saturday, but they will face a difficult test this week as they take on a hot Rabbitohs team that is advancing to a top-four finish. South Sydney, who have won six of their last seven games (including one Golden Point loss), are only two points outside the top four thanks to Latrell Mitchell’s chaos at the back and Alex Johnston’s joyous try-scoring.

A difficult stretch for the cardinal and myrtle precedes the 2021 Telstra Premiership Grand Final rematch, with matches against the Cowboys (second) and Roosters (eighth) scheduled to follow Thursday’s heavyweight contest. The Panthers, on the other hand, are undoubtedly determined to put their recent loss behind them and focus on an 80-minute performance before another finals campaign, so their attention will be limited to this week.

Latrell Mitchell has been chosen as the fullback for the Rabbitohs after leaving the practice field early on Monday due to a groin injury. Jaxson Paulo moves to the wing, Campbell Graham, the center, returns from a fractured cheekbone he incurred in Round 16, and Izaac Thompson is moved to the reserves. Young halfback Lachlan Ilias is back in the No. 7 jersey after withdrawing late last week, while Thomas Burgess (groin) is still out. Hame Sele moves to the bench as Daniel Suluka-Fifita returns to the starting lineup after missing Round 22 due to a back complaint. The 19-man team update on Wednesday night did not include any last-minute adjustments for the Rabbitohs.

Dylan Edwards, a fullback for the Panthers, returned from a sternum injury after being a late scratch the previous week. Despite twisting his ankle against Melbourne, Liam Martin has been given the all-clear to play, and Taylan May was a last-minute addition to the 24-hour team update. Sunia Turuva moves back to 18th Man as May makes an early recovery from a shoulder injury. Scott Sorensen has been replaced on the bench by J’maine Hopgood because he withdrew due to a minor calf injury.
