It was an all-Indian affair in the badminton men’s singles SL3 first round. World Number 1 Pramod Bhagat took on World Number 3 Manoj Sarkar. Initially the match looked to be very one sided, with Pramod dominating the tie from the word go. Pramod took the first set 21-10, and it felt he would repeat the same in the second one. But that was not the case, Manoj showed his will and determination to fight back and take the second set 23-21. However, in the last set, Pramod showed why he was the World Number 1. Just like the first set, he once again defeated the World Number 3, 21-9. Manoj Sarkar ran out of steam in the final game. After a closely fought mixed doubles loss earlier, Pramod made sure he did not let this one slip away.

PALAK KOHLI LOSES

After starting with a loss in the SL3-SU5 mixed doubles event, the 19-year-old Palak Kohli faced yet another defeat as she fell to a straight-game loss against Japan’s Suzuki Ayako. The Indian lost 21-4, 21-7 at the Tokyo Paralympics. Palak seemed to be no match to the world number 1 and lost by a comfortable margin at the Yogoi National Stadium.

The Indian made countless unforced errors during the course of the match. Constantly hitting the shuttle out of the court on times more than one could imagine. The Indian coach Gaurav Khanna was even heard guiding the youngster to hit at the centre of the court after the game, but it made no difference as Palak failed to improve.

AMIT KUMAR AND DHARAMBIR MISS OUT!

Amit Kumar and Dharambir – the Indian Club throw duo – ended up at fifth and eighth position respectively in the F51 men’s club throw competition of the Paralympics 2020 in Tokyo on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old Kumar’s best effort of the evening was 27.77m. It was also his season’s best performance. Amit Kumar is the best in the business as he the reigning Asian Para Games champion as well.

The Indian pair’s performance fell way short in comparison to gold medal winner Musa Taimazov of the Russian Paralympic Committee. Taimazov hurled the club to 35.42m, creating a new world record in the process of F51 classification category.

Furthermore, the silver was claimed by Czech Republic’s young Zeljko Dimitrijevic, who recorded a personal best of 35.29m. Adding to it, Slovakian Marian Kureja, who logged a distance of 30.66m, took home the bronze medal.

SUYASH JADHAV DISQUALIFIED

Indian swimmer Suyash Jadhav had a disappointing start to his Tokyo Paralympics journey. He got disqualified from the Men’s 100m Breaststroke SB7 final. Competing at his second Paralympics Games, Suyash started in Lane 1 and finished the event but his timing wasn’t registered.

According to the official recorded reason, Suyash was disqualified due to a technical issue as he performed more than one fly kick after the turn. Suyash was also supposed to compete in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley SM7 category on Day 3 of the Tokyo Paralympics. However, he missed out on the event due to illness. He was suffering from a cold and sore throat but tested negative for Covid. Suyash Jadhav will now be in action on Day 10 (3rd September) in Heat 1 of the Men’s 50m Butterfly S7 category at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
