Tokyo Olympics: Manipur CM announces assistance of Rs 25 lakh for Olympic-bound players from the state

The CM announced that players who bag the Gold medal will get the prize of Rs 1.20 crore.

Tokyo Olympics: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren on Tuesday announced that all the state is going to provide financial support to all the athletes that will take part in the Tokyo Olympics from the state. There are as many as five Tokyo Olympics-bound athletes from the state. They will be handed financial support of Rs 25 lakh. Furthermore, when the athlete wins a medal, they will also be given more cash awards if they return with medals.

The CM announced that players who bag the Gold medal will get the prize of Rs 1.20 crore. The ones who win the silver medallist will get Rs 1 crore. The bronze medal winner will get Rs 75 lakh.

“Now is the time we come out to support the sportspersons. Competing at the Tokyo Games beginning from July 23 to August 8, 2021. Biren said on the sidelines of an event.

“It is a matter of pride for a small state like Manipur. As many as five players are being selected to represent the country in the Olympics.” said N. Biren Singh, while expressing confidence that the Manipuri athletes would win medals for the country.

Tokyo Olympics: #Cheer4India campaign

CM Biren Singh also “Launched the Tokyo Olympic #Cheer4India campaign in Manipur.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted “Manipur is a powerhouse of sporting talent. Good effort by the Manipur government to #Cheer4India and to inspire youngsters to pursue sports.”

Singh further said the state will initiate activities like virtual felicitation of athletes’ families, Olympic quizzes. Road to Tokyo 2020 fan engagement drives, and Olympic Symposium. The state is also going to put up a selfie points where people can click pictures and show their support.

Manipur’s P Sushila Chanu (hockey), Nilakanta Sharma (hockey), Shushila Likmabam (judo) MC Mary Kom (boxing), and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (weight lifting) will compete at the Games, starting July 23.
